5 Must-Have Items for Camping on Your Period

Worried your period will derail your upcoming camping trip? Have no fear! Here are 5 items every woman needs for camping on your period.

Camping is so much fun! Admittedly, it's not for everyone, but there are plenty of ladies who enjoy camping just as much (or more) as your average dude.

The break from the real world, the delicious (or shall we call it adventurous?) camping food, and the return to nature. And there's nothing more relaxing than the scent of a good campfire.

In fact, camping is so much fun that your period decided to get in on the fun, too. Great.

But before you hide in your tent all weekend, know that you can still have a great time!

Here are some of the absolute must-have items you need when you're camping on your period.

1. Bring a Menstrual Cup

One of the most popular feminine hygiene products on the market is the menstrual cup. And for good reason!

It takes the pain and frustration of buying tampons out of the equation in favor of a comfortable, flexible cup that you can store for up to 12 hours at a time.

No matter what type of cup you buy, it'll make your camping experience so much easier.

No need to worry about stepping away to insert tampons or change pads. And hiking will be far easier with a cup!

2. Stow Away Some Baby Wipes

For all the great things about camping, it certainly has its downsides. Namely, cleanliness.

You're going to be in nature for a few days, so you'll want to keep things clean. One of the easiest ways of doing so is by bringing a pack of baby wipes that you can store in your backpack.

According to one Reddit thread, wipes made the camping experience much more pleasant.

A quick note, make sure you don't just toss them on the ground. We realize it kind of goes without saying, but this is illegal and horrible for the environment.

Instead, bring along a plastic baggy (or, even better, a reusable bag) to store your baby wipes and other sanitary devices.

3. Bring Snacks

If you're like most women, you probably get the munchies during your time of the month. Of course, camping provides the perfect excuse to stow away a few extra snacks.

Especially chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate. Preferebly, choose the darker kind (70% coco and more) as too much sugar w

Make sure that you've got some extra snacks on hand to raise your iron levels and keep you feeling healthy and energized.

And drink lots of water. It's all too easy to get dehydrated while camping. Dehydration can lead to ugly complications like fainting or headaches.

Worse, not drinking enough water will make your cramps even more painful. As if they weren't bad enough already.

4. Have Pain Meds on Hand

Speaking of headaches and cramps, the physical activities associated with camping can make the pain worse. You'll want to have some Advil or Midol on hand to combat your period symptoms.

You're going to be sore already, and spending the day on your feet is going to lead to increased pain. If you feel that you don't need meds, don't take them. But it's good to be ready just in case!

5. Wear Dark Clothes If You're Camping on Your Period

You're probably an expert on this already, but dressing for your period is an absolute must. Especially when you're doing something physical like camping.

Be sure to pack dark clothes and anything that can hide any liners and won't lead to any embarrassment. Camping on your period is hard enough, the last thing you need is an accidental leak.
